Founder Sam Washington of The Kia Foundation

Our family was faced with a devastating decision in 2009. At this time, we had a 16-year-old Shar Pei, Pitbull mix by the name of Kia. Unfortunately, her veterinary and medical bills had become too costly for our family to be able to afford any longer. At this time there weren’t any programs available to help assist with easing the burden that was brought to our family by the cost of her rising pet care bills. This is when we also decided that something had to change.

Fast forward to two years later when The Kia Foundation, Inc. was born. Our unique, one of a kind organization strives to help qualified families with the basic pet care essentials their pet needs. It is our goal to make sure that every pet and their family has a strong lasting bond that can survive even when the cost of the health care bills begin to feel like an obstacle to the family. This is because we believe that there will be some times when life will throw us a curve ball. It’s at these times that we know how a little extra help can go a long way for a family and their beloved pet.

Seven years later, The Kia Foundation Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. We spend our time focusing on helping families meet the cost of their pet care needs. This is something that’s handled in various ways and with various programs including monthly mobile pet food pantries and CNY’s only at-home pet meal delivery service.

So, when life throws you a curve ball, don’t feel like you must sever the bond with your pet. Instead, rest assured that we will do everything we can to help you maintain this bond for as long as possible. It’s something we wish we could have had and something we’re now happy to provide others with – in Kia’s loving memory.

Mitigating situations of animals in crisis by:

  1. Hosting monthly mobile pet food and supply giveaways where individuals and families receive supplemental dog and/or cat food and supplies.

  2. Providing CNY’s only at-home pet meal delivery membership service where homebound, low income, Veteran, and disabled dog and cat owners receive dog and/or cat food and supplies.
